Kia has officially signaled its entry into India’s hybrid market, and one of the key models expected to lead this shift is the Seltos Hybrid. The company has begun outlining its plans for electrified vehicles, and while the exact launch date remains under wraps, industry sources indicate that the hybrid Seltos could make its way to Indian roads around 2027.
Kia’s First Hybrid SUV for India
Before the Seltos gets its hybrid upgrade, Kia is preparing a larger hybrid SUV for the Indian market. This upcoming model is expected to offer three-row seating, positioning it as a direct rival to popular full-size SUVs. If it follows the direction hinted by early reports, it may resemble the global Sorento in size and character. Once that model is introduced, the Seltos Hybrid will follow as the brand’s next electrified product.
This strategy allows Kia to showcase its hybrid technology at the premium end first and then bring it to a more accessible segment through the Seltos.
How the Seltos Hybrid Could Be Powered
Kia is likely to base the hybrid system on its familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which produces 115bhp in the current model. The engine may be paired with an electric motor to create a fuel-efficient combination suited for Indian driving conditions.
To keep costs competitive, Kia is expected to rely on local manufacturing for major hybrid components such as the motor, battery pack, and inverter. This approach will help the brand price the hybrid Seltos within reach of mainstream buyers.
The New-Generation Seltos: A Glimpse of What’s Coming
The hybrid version will eventually join the second-generation Seltos, which has already been unveiled globally and is scheduled for an official debut on January 2, 2026. This new model sits on the updated K3 platform, giving it a more modern design and improved proportions.
One of the standout additions inside the cabin is Kia’s new Trinity Panoramic Display. The setup integrates a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 5-inch climate control screen, creating a wide, seamless digital interface.
The latest Seltos also brings a richer equipment list, including dual-tone leatherette upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, an eight-speaker Bose sound system, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, a wireless charger, a 10-way powered driver’s seat, and updated ADAS safety technology.
Under the hood, the 2026 model continues with the current engine lineup:
A 115bhp 1.5-litre petrol, a 160bhp 1.5-litre turbo-petrol, and a 116bhp 1.5-litre diesel, paired with manual and automatic gearbox options.

The Kia Seltos Hybrid is set to become an important addition to India’s growing hybrid market. With an expected arrival closer to 2027, the model will benefit from Kia’s updated platform, improved cabin experience, and a more efficient powertrain. As the company prepares to introduce its first hybrid SUV in India, the Seltos Hybrid will play a key role in bringing hybrid technology to a wider audience. Kia’s focus on localisation, practicality, and value is likely to make the Seltos Hybrid a strong contender in its segment.
